Love Is Blind , Netflix’s newish dating series, was an instant hit for the streamer when it dropped in early February, charting on Netflix’s Top 10 list for weeks. The experiment centered around to something singles who were placed in a house with the sole purpose of finding a mate to marry. The catch here was no one saw any of their potential partners, communicating over dates in their “pods,” until a proposal happened. Hosted tepidly by husband and wife team Nick and Vanessa Lachey, the series charted the couples’ connections across 10 episodes that had them dating, proposing, taking a romantic getaway in Mexico, moving in together, and finally walking down the aisle. The show was such a huge success for Netflix that the streaming giant gave the go-ahead for a second and third season , and casting directors are already busy looking for the next crop of singles looking to find love. The second season is set to take place in Chicago, based on the applicant pool. But producers of the show, like nearly all of the world, were stopped in their tracks as the spread of coronavirus hit the globe. The ground game in Chicago to search for local singles has turned into virtual calls and connections as casting directors look to find people who are right for the nearly six-week experiment.
The series, Love Is Blind , features a handful of singles who go on blind dates in an effort to find the one. However, it isn’t your typical blind date — instead, the singles who participate in the show are put into isolation and only allowed to speak to their prospective partner who is also alone in a separate room. The pairs are told to avoid discussing physical characteristics, with the idea that this will allow for a deeper emotional bond.
What happens next is a reality TV first. In order to get to the next phase of the show, singles must get engaged to the person they fancy the most. The differences are noticeable, though.
While many believe in “love at first sight,” Netflix’s newest reality series is throwing that age-old trope out the window. Love Is Blind is an experimental dating.
While you might not be able to see someone before pledging to spend the rest of your life with them, it should be noted that all of the contestants are relatively good looking. And weddings are set four weeks later. At the altar, the couples either follow through with the nuptials or reveal to their partners that they don’t wish to wed. In the first episode, connections are quickly made and strong feelings develop. Admittedly, my shock could be explained by my lack of interest in dating shows.
It’s hard for me to invest time and emotion into something like “The Bachelor” when the splits far outnumber the success stories. That’s crazy. Before the credits roll in the premiere, we see our first proposal. I will marry you.
Blind Date is an American dating game show. The show was originally hosted by Roger Lodge , and is currently hosted by Nikki Glaser. During its syndicated years , the series was distributed by Universal Worldwide Television. During each episode, people who did not know each other were paired up and sent off on a blind date. The cameras followed their every move, while commentary in the form of subtitles, animations, and “thought bubbles” was added by the show’s producers.
On October 10, , it was announced that the series was getting revived and premiered on November 18, on Bravo.
Unlike previous relationship shows that only talk about the date, this series brings a camera along and lets the viewers watch as the action and comedy unfold. The true viewing highlight comes when both parties truly hate each other, or when one.
But it did provide some significant results. And their genuine excitement when they finally met was so palpable you could almost reach out and touch it. There are numerous ways in which the show contradicts its egalitarian title. But largely, it presents love as pretty straightforward, and usually able-bodied, heterosexual, conventionally attractive and slim.
Yet we tuned in — because we too crave companionship, and watching the show allowed us all to have an opinion and join a lively conversation. Something very special happens when a group of friends watch their new favourite show at the same time. Our shared disgust at Jessica letting the dog drink red wine from her glass was just one standout moment in the social media discourse.
At a time when so much divides us, this bizarre series — even if just for a moment — bonded us together. I, like many seasoned reality binge-watchers, am used to a certain level of closure at the end of a particularly good season. On reuniting a year later, much was still left unsaid. I wanted Jessica and Amber, two contestants who were feuding over the same mediocre man, to really have it out.
By Nellie Andreeva. Love Is Blind looks at whether looks or age do matter in romantic relationships, or if love is really blind. Hosted by the Lacheys, in the series, singles who want to be loved for who they are, rather than what they look like, have signed up for a less conventional approach to modern dating where they hope to meet the person they want to spend the rest of their lives with…without ever having seen them. Engaged and back in the real world, as the couples plan their wedding day, they will quickly discover whether they can turn their emotional connection into a physical one before the fast-approaching ceremony.
It centers on a group of singles who go on a series of literal blind dates. They can only hear them. Then they get engaged—yes, engaged—without ever laying eyes on the person. Will they be attracted to their betrothed? Will their friends and family members approve? This is explored as the couples leave the pods, go on romantic getaways, and then head back to their real lives.
I finished the first five episodes feeling exhilarated, bewildered, and exhausted. I also had one zillion questions. Below, a nonexhaustive list:.

Updated: August 23, am. The reality series is blind dating on steroids. Thirty participants spend 10 days getting to know each other for this so-called love experiment. The catch? They have no idea what the other person looks like.
Think Catholic confessional meets Tinder. Roughly 10 days later, after much gabbing, those who share a strong connection get engaged and meet for the first time before jetting off for a honeymoon-esque stay in Mexico. If, after all of that, the spark remains, the couples exchange vows and join the ranks of other made-for-television love stories. The episode series is being released as a three-week event. The first five episodes were released last week; the next four episodes are now available to stream.

And if you could start with pure love, is that love enough to survive in what is a really polarized world, a really judgmental world and a really detached world? How do we make it a deep experience?
How do we start with love? And some people were less conventionally attractive, and ultimately we were only able to follow so many stories.
